Temporomandibular  Joint Disorders (TMD) are defined as a collective term that express a variety of clinical conditions involving the temporomandibular joints and/or masticatory musculature. These clinical conditions frequently presents as Pain, Temporomandibular Joint Sounds and Limited Mandibular Movement.

Orthognathic surgery.

Orthognathic surgery; also known as corrective Jaw surgery, is surgery designed to correct conditions of the Jaw and Face related to structure, growth, sleep-apnoea, TMJ disorders, malocclusion problems owing to skeletal disharmonies, or other orthodontic problems that cannot be easily treated with braces.

Facial Reconstructive surgery.

Maxillo-Facial Pathology.

Various pathology of the Maxillo-Facial area can be treated by Dr Mark Meyer. These include Salivary Gland Pathology, Facial Asymmetry Disorders, Cysts and Tumors of the Facial Skeleton and Oral Cancer.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is a condition in which breathing stops involuntarily for brief periods of time during sleep. Normally, air flows smoothly from the mouth and nose into the lungs at all times. Dr Mark Meyer will assess if any Maxillo-Facial and Oral surgical procedures could assist with managing your OSA.

Facial Pain.

Facial pain is pain felt in any part of the face, including the mouth and eyes. Although it's normally due to an injury or a headache, facial pain may also be the result of a serious medical condition. Dr Mark Meyer will assess if your Facial Pain are due to conditions that impact the Maxillo-Facial and Oral Cavity.

 

Anaesthesia

Most Maxillo-Facial Surgical procedures are performed under General Anaesthesia. Dr Mark Meyer perform most of his General Anaesthesia procedures in Acute and Day Hospital facilities. He has admitting privileges in both N1 City Netcare, Cape Gate Mediclinic Hospital group as well as Advance Health Day Theatre complex in Panorama and Durbanville.
